Pursuant to the repeal of DPCO 1970, erstwhile Warner-Hindustan Limited merged with Parke-Davis India ; Limited in 1988 and Parke Davis India ; Limited merged with Pfizer Limited in 2003 ; had classified ISOKIN TABLETS, ISOKIN LIQUID AND PYRIDIUM TABLETS as decontrolled products under the DPCO 1979. The categorization was, however, challenged by the Government in 1984 and a demand of Rs.113 lakhs was raised against the Company. Against this demand an excise duty set off of Rs.7 lakhs was allowed to the Company and a final demand of Rs.106 lakhs was raised in 1987. The Company had deposited an amount of Rs.30 lakhs in February 1987 and Rs.25 lakhs in May 1990 totaling to an aggregate of Rs.55 lakhs in full and final settlement of the demand, as per the arguments set forth by the Company. The Government subsequently raised a demand of Rs.117 lakhs towards interest on principal demand. ie interest of Rs.43 lakhs for Pyrid9um for the period 1982 to August1995 and Rs.74 lakhs for Isokin for the period 1982 to June 1997 ; . The Company filed a Writ Petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court in September 1997 for staying all further proceedings against the Company. The High Court stayed the demand in respect of collection of interest but directed the Company to deposit the balance demand of Rs.51 lakhs which amount was deposited in November, 1997 ; . g ; Multivitamin Formulations: The Government has arbitrarily raised a demand of Rs.182.38 Lakhs on account of alleged overpricing of certain multivitamin formulations marketed by erstwhile Pharmacia Healthcare Limited merged with Pfizer Limited ; for the period 1983 to 1986. The Company has repudiated the liability on this account as advised by its solicitors. The Company filed a Writ Petition No.814 of 1992 in the High Court at Mumbai. The Supreme Court of India, in a Special Leave Petition filed by the Company held that pending disposal of Writ Petition filed before the High Court at Mumbai, the Company shall furnish an undertaking in respect of 50% of its liability and shall deposit the balance 50% aggregating to Rs.91.19 Lakhs. This amount has been deposited with the Government of India and is included under the head "Loans and Advances". Pursuant to a Transfer Petition Civil ; no 475-496 of 2003 filed under Article 139A 1 ; of the Constitution of India, all pending writ petitions in respect of DPEA liabilities are now to be transferred to the Supreme Court to be heard and finally decided by the Supreme Court of India. Consequently as a result of the said transfer petition, Writ Petitions referred to in a ; , and g ; above will now be heard and disposed off by the Supreme Court. In view of matters a ; , b ; , c ; , and g ; being subjudice, the legal opinion being in favour of the Company, and based on the assessment of the Management, no further provision is considered necessary over and above the sum of Rs.154.21 lakhs that has already been made in the accounts in earlier years. For cosmetics is relatively new. I took an interest when I noticed how many women asked me what could be done for unwanted hair and spider veins. Until lasers were designed for cosmetic uses there were few options. Electrolysis for hair and injections for spider veins could be performed, but the results were variable. The treatments were time consuming and painful. NEA Clinic opened its Advanced Laser Center where both unwanted hair and spider veins are treated with excellent results. Additionally, facial blemishes, wrinkles, and stretch marks can be treated. The Advanced Laser Center has the most sophisticated up to date Yag Lasers available. A laser is essentially a specially focused light. It exerts its effect when the tissue focused upon absorbs the light energy. In the case of unwanted hair, the hair root absorbs the laser light to destroy the follicle permanently. The appearance of wrinkles is lessened by the production of collagen from the tissue underneath the wrinkle in response to the laser energy. Likewise, pigmented lesions absorb the laser, which dissolves the pigment. Spider veins contain blood and the pigment in the blood cells absorbs the laser energy to coagulate and close the vein making it invisible. Wrinkles, blemishes, and stretch 2 . NEA HEALTH | FALL 05.
B. Meyer, F. Traunmueller, T. Staudinger, G. Locker, R. Schmid, F. Thalhammer Vienna, A Cefodizime is an extended-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with good in vivo and in vitro activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens including most beta-lactamase-producing species. Methods: Pharmacokinetic characteristics of cefodizime were assessed in 21 acutely ill elderly patients age 65 years ; . Thirteen patients received a single-dose of 2 g cefodizime intravenously, eight patients received a single-dose of 4 g cefodizime intravenously. Serum concentrations of cefodizime were assessed by highperformance liquid chromatography. Results: After a single dose of 2 g cefodizime the mean cefodizime serum concentration peak was 222 55 lg ml, the elimination half-life was 6.19 2.45 h. The total clearance, area under the curve and volume of distribution were 35.8 13.2 ml min, 1089.4 505.3 lg ml h and 18.1 6.3 L, respectively. After a single-dose of 4 g cefodizime the mean serum concentration peak was 319 79 lg ml, the elimination half-life time was 6.81 4.30 h. The total clearance, area under the curve and volume of distribution were 42.35 14.67 ml min, 1763.2 630 lg ml h and 21.87 8.08 L, respectively. Cefodizime was tolerated well in all patients, no major side effects occurred. Conclusion: Our results indicate that acutely ill elderly patients can be treated safely and effectively with a standard dose of 24 g cefodizime. No age-related dose-modification is necessary and reglan.

Seating in the classroom is less of an issue. Until Juvenile HD is fairly advanced, the child should be able to use a regular chair in school. If balance, rigidity or spasticity becomes an issue, the physical or occupational therapist can make specific recommendations to make school life easier. For example, an adaptation such as a pommel can keep the child from sliding out of the chair if trunk control is poor. Special padding or a recliner chair may also make the child more comfortable and pepcid.

In this regard we are investigating CdS and ZnS quantum dots doped with magnetic nuclei such as Mn II ; and trivalent lanthanides and their characterization by a variety of spectroscopic and imaging techniques. We have developed a green synthetic procedure in the aqueous phase under mild conditions for the generation of core shell quantum dots. The CdS: Mn CdS quantum dots containing CdS quantum core doped with varying concentrations of Mn II ; 0.01 ; encapsulated in CdS shell of varying stoichiometric ratios 1 16 1 ; between the core and shell CdS have been synthesized. Uv-vis, fluorescence, and EPR spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, XRD, dynamic laser light scattering, optical microscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurements and elemental analysis have been employed to characterize these core shell nanoparticles. These studies have also been extended to lanthanide ion dopants and interesting differences have been observed between Mn II ; and the trivalent lanthanide ions. Significant results of these studies will be presented. Discrete independent variables in all statistical models were treatment group, cow, and day. Because of the relatively small number of days for which rectal temperature and SHC were measured and because of the erratic trends for rectal temperature over days, day was treated as a discrete variable. Cow nested within group was considered a random effect, which was equivalent to assuming a compound symmetric covariance structure. Because of the extreme heterogeneous variation among values, haptoglobin data were log10-transformed. RESULTS A total of 51 cows was used in this study. Thirty of 51 cows 59% ; in this project were primiparous. Cows that did not meet the diagnostic criteria on d 1 were removed as were any cows that suffered from diseases other than TPM. All cows that received the antipyretic agent flunixin meglumine Banamine; Schering-Plough Animal Health Corp., Kenilworth, NJ ; were removed because rectal temperature was an important variable. Within 3 to 20 DIM, 50 of 51 cows met the established criteria that were used to diagnose TPM. Table 1 shows the final distribution of cows by treatment group and the statistical description of lactation and DIM for each treatment group. A similar mean lactation number and number of DIM for cows in all three treatment groups indicated a successful randomization of the study. A seasonal calving pattern was used on the farm where this project was conducted; the majority of calvings occurred from August to December of each year. In this project, 34 of 51 cows 67% ; calved between June and September, which are traditionally the hottest months in Florida. The majority of cows 28 of 51; 55% ; in this project had RFM. A total of 50 cows received calving codes. Most cows 40 of 50; 80% ; had a score of 2, but a few 10 of 50; 20% ; had a score of 3. No cow needed a cesarean section. Two measurements of milk yield were eliminated because of inconsistencies. Milk yields on d 1 for 1 cow in group 1 15.5 kg ; and that for 1 cow in group 2 25.9 kg ; were eliminated from the data used in the analyses. The initial milk yield for the cow in group 2 was much higher than the mean milk yield of cows in early lactation. This suspiciously high measurement could have been the result of an error in reading the milk weight. The cow in group 1 was eliminated because her initial milk weight was high and not comparable with subsequent milk weights, which could have also been due to an error in measuring or recording data. The change in milk yield from d 2 through 12 should reflect the response of the cow to treatment. In.

The response to treatment is poor. Most patients have used over the counter analgesics and a range of alternative treatments such as vitamins and prayer. Many have also used acupuncture which is now being incorporated into mainstream medicine ; with some benefit Berman et al, 1999 ; . In this setting of relative therapeutic impotence, it is especially important to attend to any concomitant psychiatric disorders. These can be anticipated in at least one quarter of FM patients and respond to standard treatments.

Down information on drug interference is the fact that patients only rarely receive one medication at a time. We encountered such a problem while performing serum thyroxine determinations by column chromatography. The final eluate from one serum had a reddish tinge and showed an erratic reaction rate Figure 2 ; . The kinetics of the reaction are such that a plot of the logarithm of Klett readings vs. time normally produces a straight line for both standards and serum eluates. With this particular serum, however, ceric ion was rapidly reduced at first, then the rate of the reaction markedly decreased. This anomaly could be detected only by taking readings at three time intervals because the slope was changing constantly. Review of the patient's chart revealed that he was receiving 14 different medications at the time this blood specimen was drawn Table 2 ; . The pink color in the eluate was probably caused by pyridium contained in the "AzoGantanol" a mixture of sulfamethoxazole and phenazopyridine hydrochloride ; . Although the color of the eluate in this case prompted further investigation, subsequent studies suggest that sulfamethoxazole "Gantanol" ; alone inhibits the overall reaction. This example illustrates the difficulty in evaluating drug interferences by working back through patients' records. It is virtually impossible to cross-check all known drug interferences against requested laboratory tests. One solution might be to have such information computerized: for a given patient, entries would be made for each medication received and each laboratory test requested; any potential interferences would then be printed out. This would be analogous to the charts that show incompatibilities of solutions for parenteral use. The effect of medications on laboratory test values is a field that deserves and is getting ; more attention. Some observations made in an earlier review 9 ; have been augmented and tabulated by Wirth and Thompson 10 ; . Elking and Kabat 11 ; published an article containing over 1500 citations relating to the effect of medications on laboratory test values, a valuable contribution that needs further amplification to separate pharmacological effects from chemical interferences and to relate the cited interference to specific methodologies. Several other more recent reviews on this subject have appeared 12-14 and bentyl.

The jaw is integral to a person's ability to form speech. Now AudioReader has JAWS that will help machines speak, so that blind workers and volunteers can access computer technology. Audio-Reader received a , 000 grant in March from the Douglas County Community Foundation to purchase new text-to-speech computer software, called JAWS. This software--to be installed in AudioReader's six recording studios--is an adaptive text-to-speech program utilized by individuals who are blind or visually impaired to access any text visible on a computer screen. JAWS for Windows reads information using synthesized speech. Offered as a free public service by the University of Kansas, AudioReader is a reading and information service for blind and print-disabled individuals throughout Kansas and western Missouri. JAWS will make it possible for Audio-Reader's Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, Susan Tabor, who is totally blind, to operate independently in the studios, record materials and help volunteers with equipment. "The arrival of JAWS will allow me to work autonomously and fully perform the functions of my job, " Tabor said. The man in charge of the building's technology sees JAWS as a way to widen the scope of what blind workers and volunteers can accomplish at Audio-Reader, 1120 W. 11th St. "With the installation of this adaptive screen-reading program, AudioReader's blind and visually impaired volunteers and employees will now be able to access and maneuver our computer-based recording systems, opening up a whole new world to them, " said Steve Kincaid, engineering director. The grant and the JAWS software will help Audio-Reader fulfill its mission of offering print-disabled persons the opportunity for greater personal independence by providing access to the printed word and visual information, according to the agency's director. "Thanks to this grant, AudioReader's blind employees, now and in the future will have the ability to thrive in their positions. AudioReader is committed to maintaining a highly competent workforce that represents the diversity of our community, " Janet Campbell, executive director, said. For more information about Audio-Reader, visit : reader.ku or call 785 ; 864-4600. Services are available free of charge, but donations are welcome.
| Pyridium 15 mgStudy was to observe and analyze the skipping motion of a specific group of subjects under three different foot constraints: skipping wearing a ; tennis shoes, b ; thick winter socks, and c ; barefoot. Analysis revealed that under all three constraints, all 10 subjects performed arm action at level 2. Furthermore, analysis revealed that under all three constraints, 2 boy subjects performed leg action at level 2, and 3 boy subjects performed at leg action level 3. However, under all three constraints, the 5 girl subjects varied between the 3 levels of leg action. This study is a good example of how children develop the same skill at different rates, and how the developments of locomotor skills are age-related, not agedetermined. The results of this study can aid physical educators and coaches to help develop appropriate activities for the proper developmental levels of each student and or athlete.
During the year was associated with , 500 1996 dollars ; higher total health care costs compared with nonfallers. Incurring one or more injurious falls was associated with increased health care costs of , 440. These costs are substantially higher than those estimated by either our study or Englander's, and the reason for the differences is not apparent. The high costs incurred by elderly consumers experiencing noninjurious falls may suggest that falling affects medical conditions that may not appear to be directly fall-related. Because the results in our study were based on consumer self-reports and because our estimates included only services that were directly associated with the fall, this could account for the higher estimates in Rizzo's study. This would also suggest that our study provides a conservative estimate of the cost of falls in the community-dwelling elderly. Fallers may also be frailer than nonfallers, and the higher level of frailty, rather than the falls themselves, may explain the higher health care costs that Rizzo noted among fallers.

| Abstract. On 25 June 1990 in Shanghai, two men Shi, a 56-year-old male, and Wan, a 53-year-old male ; were accidentally exposed to homogeneous high dose and high dose rate 60Co irradiation total activity 0.85 PBq, at the time of delivery from the manufacturing factory in June 1960 ; up to 12 and 11 Gy, respectively. Both suffered from an extremely severe haematopoietic form of acute radiation sickness. Through energetic salvage and human leukocyte antigen HLA ; haploidentical bone marrow transplantation, their survival times were prolonged to 25 days and 90 days, respectively. In the case of Wan, the implanted bone marrow resided and engrafted completely, and haematopoiesis was restored. However, the patient died of interstitial pneumonia 90 days after exposure to radiation. The clinical course of multi-organ failure and the valuable experience obtained from the management of these patients is of great significance in directing the prevention of multi-organ failure and the treatment of such patients in the future. Pathological findings from these two autopsy cases are helpful in elucidating the underlying pathogenesis of clinical multi-organ failure, the cause of death and especially, the pathogenesis and morphogenesis of lung fibrosis.

Explosive chemicals can release tremendous amounts of destructive energy rapidly. If not handled properly, these chemicals can pose a serious threat to the health and safety of laboratory personnel, emergency responders, building occupants, chemical waste handlers, and disposal companies. For example, an explosion of old isopropyl ether killed a laboratory worker when he attempted to remove a glass stopper from the container. In another instance, tetrazole exploded inside a hazardous waste incinerator, causing major damage and costly repairs. Potentially explosive chemicals PECs ; , which include peroxidizable organic chemicals. Most chemicals that are used in research and teaching laboratories are stable and non-explosive at the time of purchase. Over time, some chemicals can oxidize, become contaminated, dry out, or otherwise destabilize to become PECs e.g., isopropyl ether, sodium amide, and picric acid ; . See Appendix I--Explosive and Potentially Explosive Families-- for examples. Unlike known explosives, which are designed to be stable under normal conditions, PECs are particularly dangerous because they may explode if they are subjected to heat, light, friction, or mechanical shock. Common Laboratory PECs There are many PECs used in academic research laboratories. The following are some commonly used chemicals that can become an explosion hazard under certain conditions: Organic chemicals that form peroxides through exposure to air or light see Appendix II -- Peroxide Forming Chemicals ; Hydrated picric acid that becomes dry or becomes contaminated with metals that form metal picrate salts Sodium amide that reacts with air or moisture to form superoxides, as evidenced by yellow or brown discoloration Certain alkyl nitrates e.g., butyl nitrate or propyl nitrate ; that become contaminated with nitrogen oxides Certain normally stable perchlorates e.g., pyridium perchlorate or tetraethylammonium perchlorate ; that become unstable at elevated temperatures Note: Most explosions occur while purifying or distilling mixtures. Therefore, use extreme caution before concentrating or purifying any mixture that may contain an explosive chemical e.g., a peroxide forming chemical or perchlorate ; . There is an additional group of chemicals that should be considered although they are not necessarily heat-, light-, friction-, or shock-sensitive. These chemicals give off gaseous degradation by-products that may cause overSafe Method of Use 4 Storage of Chemicals. Version 2 Oct 2005.
There is a new fund at Or Shalom to provide scholarships to our members. Please consider making donations to this fund for honours, or memorials, as it greatly benefits our community when people can attend Jewish conferences or other learning opportunities. Other choices are: Len Ryant Memorial Fund, Building Fund, Refugee Fund, Book Fund, and School Fund.
A group of experts recently reviewed the role and importance of after-meal blood glucose levels in diabetes control. The experts did not set an after-meal target, nor did they conclude that everyone with diabetes should check it. However, by the time they got done listing who would benefit from after-meal checking, it included many people. They suggest checking if you: suspect you have high blood glucose levels after meals and or take a diabetes medication intended to lower after-meal blood glucose levels and or need to monitor for low blood glucose levels or have diabetes during pregnancy gestational.
